Accenture is the Official Technology Partner of the RBS 6 Nations, a longstanding partnership that began in 2012.
At the heart of the relationship is a range of innovative digital solutions, created by Accenture, to help the Championship respond to the changing needs of its fan base, enabling supporters to see beyond the match data and bringing them closer to the action of Rugby's Greatest Championship.
With the highest quality data, innovative analytics and commentary from some of the best minds in rugby, the Accenture Analysis Team helps fans to #Seebeyond the standard match stats. To deliver these unique insights into game-changing moments, Accenture's analytics experts processed more than 28.5 million rows of data in 2016 alone, and Analysis Team members, Nick Mallett and Ben Kay, shared their extensive rugby knowledge to gauge the crucial dimensions of player and team performance to provide fans with new information and perspective.
The Accenture-created official Championship mobile app for iOS, Apple Watch, Android and Kindle Fire brings these insights and all the match action direct to fans' pockets. Over the past five years, users from over 200 countries have downloaded and updated the app more than 3.9 million times. The app includes pre-match news, line-ups and previews, providing play-by-play commentary during the game and most importantly performance analysis, including match, team and player insights, whilst allowing fans to interact over social media.
Extending its programme of innovation, Accenture developed a virtual reality (VR) wearable proof of concept on Oculus Rift to bring to life the fan experience of the future. Watch the video below to find out more.
For the 2017 RBS 6 Nations tournament, Accenture are developing a cinematic, full body, mixed reality experience that extends virtual reality from the individual to a wider audience.
