The pair spent two nights in an Italian jail last weekend following an incident outside a Treviso nightclub.

After appearing in court and then travelling home following reprimands and cautions, they have been selected to start Saturday's return Heineken Cup fixture against Treviso at Rodney Parade.

Both players apologised for their actions, but they are now braced for an internal hearing, possibly early next week.

Dragons chief executive Gethin Jenkins and the region's directors will conduct the hearing.

Dragons team manager Jim McCreedy said: "We have made a statement regarding the players.

"The hearing will take place in a short space of time and will be conducted by the chief executive and the directors.

“On the outcome of the meeting, a further statement will be made. Until that, we have considered them for selection.

"The range of punishment could be the costs of keeping people out there in Italy, which were considerable and which the players will have to cover, and the options (punishment) are fines and suspensions."

The Dragons won 35-33 in Italy to keep alive slim hopes of progressing from Pool One.

But McCreedy added: "It was our first win there and it was an absolutely fabulous performance which was overshadowed by the events after the game."

South Africa-born Thomas has won three Wales caps and been tipped for a successful international future under new national coach Warren Gatland.

Thomas started Wales' recent clash against world champions South Africa at the Millennium Stadium.
