Gavin Henson will deny behaving in a disorderly manner when he is summoned to appear in court next month, his club has said.
Ospreys and Wales international Henson, 25, is due to appear before Cardiff magistrates on January 14 in connection with allegations of drunken antics on a train.

Three friends who were with Henson at the time of the alleged incident between London and Cardiff are also being summoned to appear in court on the same date.

All four are to be prosecuted for offences contrary to Section 5 of the Public Order Act 1986.

A spokesman for the Ospreys said Henson denied disorderly conduct and would not be facing disciplinary action from the club.

“Gavin vehemently denies the charge and the Ospreys are fully in support of him in this matter,” he said.

“The club has spent a great deal of time over the past week speaking with Gavin and related parties surrounding the events that occurred on Sunday December 2.

“It is our judgment that Gavin’s personal conduct itself was not such as to warrant direct disciplinary action by the Ospreys.”

The spokesman added that both Gavin and the Ospreys would like to offer their apologies to passengers who were disturbed on the train journey.

The alleged incident occurred on the London to Cardiff train after Henson had produced a man-of-the-match display in the Ospreys’ 19-8 Heineken Cup win over Harlequins.

A statement from the British Transport Police confirmed the names and ages of the four men involved.

It said: “Four men are to be prosecuted for public order offences following a disturbance on the 19.37 First Great Western London Paddington to Cardiff train on the evening of Sunday December 2.

“At 9.25pm on December 2, BTP officers at Cardiff Central responded to a call to a group of men causing a disturbance on the train.”

They named the four men as Henson, from St Brides Major, Jamie Mark Griffiths, 26, from Bridgend, David Norman, 33, from Bridgend, and Matthew Rhys Williams, 25, from Wick.

A BTP spokesman said the legal representatives of all four men have been informed of the decision to prosecute.
