England take team award

The England side took the BBC Team of the Year Award after their unexpected journey to the Rugby World Cup final where they lost to South Africa by 15-6.

Talking on behalf of the team, blind-side flanker Martin Corry said: "I think the term 'rollercoaster of emotions' is often overused but it seems perfectly apt to describe our journey through the World Cup.

"I think every one of the players, the management and the coaches all deserve a mark of respect for that."

England took the award ahead of the Great Britain cycling team and the Scottish football side to claim the honour for the second time in five years.

England backs Jason Robinson and Jonny Wilkinson were placed 5th and 7th behind the winner of Sports Personality of the year boxer - Joe Calzaghe.
