Tait looks to future

England and Newcastle utility back Mathew Tait has started his second year of a biomedical science degree at Newcastle University following his sensational performances at the World Cup.

Tait has buried himself in his science textbooks as he attempts to juggle the responsibilities of full-time professional rugby with studying for a degree course.

He finished the World Cup as one of the top-rated players in the tournament and has
played 19 times for England.

“I’ve hopefully got ten years - and the rest - of playing rugby at the top level ahead of me,” Tait, 21, said to The Times, “but I’m doing the degree because I enjoy it. I wouldn’t do it if I didn’t.

'It is nice to have something different to do away from rugby. The university are letting me do it part-time, but I missed a lot of work while I was at the World Cup so I’m studying three hours a day to catch up.”
