Previous defeats to Ireland, and a first ever at Twickenham to France, mean there will be another name on the trophy for the first time since 2005 but Gary Street's side restored some pride against Italy, confirming Ireland as champions in the process.
Second row Jo McGilchrist put England on their way, grabbing the first try of the match to celebrate her 50th cap and while Amber Reed missed the conversion, the hosts didn't have to wait long to extend their lead.
Prop Roz Crowley side-stepped her way over for her first try of the match just three minutes after McGilchrist's score and this time Reed was on target with the conversion for a 12-0 lead.
Skipper Sarah Hunter, also celebrating her 50th cap, was the next to get in on the act before Reed then fell short with a penalty attempt and right winger Lydia Thompson was just held up in the corner.
But the lead was stretched further when flying winger Sally Tuson notched her seventh try in as many matches in the left-hand corner after England worked the ball from the right.
Five minutes later, concerted England pressure brought another score, this time the hosts showing patience by moving the ball from right to left, the back to the right, allowing Crowley to exploit the space for her second try of the match, Reed adding the extras.
After the break, England refused to let up and only some desperate defending from the Italians kept the hosts out in the early stages of the second half.
Italy then came back into the match, enjoying some possession of their own but England second row Emily Braund won a lineout against the throw with the visitors well-placed.
Eventually England did manage their sixth try, Emily Scott collecting a cross-kick from Ceri Large to extend the lead to 34-0 with ten minutes remaining.
