Ireland Women
Ireland will hope to make it four wins out of four against France on Friday
Ireland Women focused solely on securing title, says Guest

Irish tighthead prop Laura Guest has urged her teammates to put their Triple Crown joy behind them and focus on winning the RBS 6 Nations title.
Wins over Wales, England and Scotland 30-3 in their last outing mean Ireland are three-fifths of the way to a Grand Slam, and Clonakilty star Guest insists the side can’t afford to rest on their laurels if they are to complete a clean sweep of wins.

“It’s not going to sink in just yet because we’re only part the way through the journey,” she told Red FM’s Big Red Bench.

“We have a Triple Crown now and that’s great, but we are firmly focused on France next and we can relax and celebrate when the championship is over.”

Ireland’s 25-0 victory over England at Ashbourne was their first over the reigning Grand Slam champions in 18 games. But Guest is adamant Philip Doyle’s side will be saving their celebrations until after the Six Nations title is in the bag, starting with France at Ashbourne on Friday evening.

“We have made history, but obviously we can’t rest on that, and we’re not finished yet in the championship, we hope anyway,” said Guest.

“The management team wanted us to enjoy it – obviously there were certain parts of our performance against Scotland we weren’t happy with, but we were allowed enjoy the moment. If we had failed in Wales to get that win, which was very hard-fought, none of this would have happened.

“England and Scotland looked like bigger and easier wins but that Welsh game was extremely tough just as it was against England and Scotland, but we were able to get leeway against them and score.

“I think it took nearly 60-odd minutes for us to become aware that we were going to win the Triple Crown, but we knew it would be that difficult against Scotland. They make it very difficult for you in the breakdown and in every other aspect of the game.”
