Fran Matthews and Danielle Waterman scored the tries while new skipper McLean also added two conversions - one from a penalty try.
It took England just 11 minutes to open their account as Richmond wing Matthews received the ball from Margaret Alphonsi and dashed over the line.
And it stayed that way right up until just before half-time when referee Mark Patton awarded England a penalty try, McLean adding the extras for a 12-0 half-time lead.
But Gary Street's side weren't finished there and just eight minutes after the restart Kim Oliver offloaded quickly to Worcester full-back Waterman who scored on the right wing.
McLean added the conversion but the visitors were unable to add to the scoreline in the remaining 30 minutes and had to dig deep to make sure Wales didn't help themselves to a consolation late in the game.
