Kockott reportedly becomes eligible for the les Bleus in 2014 and after watching his side finish sixth in the RBS 6 Nations earlier this year, Philippe Saint-Andre may call on the scrum-half.
And while Kockott revealed his still harbours hopes of forcing his way past the likes of Fourie du Preez, Ruan Pienaar, Jano Vermaak, Piet van Zyl and Francois Hougaard in the South African pecking order, he conceded he would be open to playing for France if the call doesn’t materialise.
"I'm a strong believer that if I'm playing the best rugby of my career, I'll catch the attention of the selectors back home," he said.
"But if that doesn't work out, I hope to do well enough to get into the French team. I'm still very young and I'd like to have an international career. Here (in France) or in my country. I have three or four years left to achieve that."
