He is one of two changes to the French squad that will look to bounce back on Saturday, replacing Florian Fritz at outside centre.

His Toulon teammate Jocelino Suta, who missed the game in Italy, comes straight into the second row for the injured Pascal Papé, with Thierry Dusautoir taking over the captaincy.

The additions of Bastareaud and Suta mean there are four Toulon players in the side, including a midfield lineup of Frédéric Michalak, Maxime Mermoz and Bastareaud.

Wesley Fofana remains on the right wing, with Benjamin Fall and Yoann Huget joining him in the back three.

And up front Dimitri Szarzewski will get another shot at hooker despite a difficult time of it in the lineout in Italy.

Saint-André said: “It’s in defeat that we learn. We will see how the team reacts collectively. We will need to find the solutions to how we rediscover the freshness and efficiency that was lacking in Italy.”
