Roberts back with a bang

Wales centre Jamie Roberts came back from injury with a bang as he got his name on the score sheet in Cardiff Blues' 34-18 PRO12 win over Benetton Treviso.
Roberts was a key member of Wales RBS 6 Nations Grand Slam winning team, scoring a wonderful try in the win over Italy, but suffered a cruciate ligament injury in March.

But the 25-year-old showed no ill effects as he burst over the line for the Blues against Treviso after Dan Fish had opened the scoring.

Robert Barbieri crossed twice for the Italian outfit but tries from replacements Jason Tovey and Campese Ma’afu sealed a bonus-point win which moved Blues up to third in the PRO12 table.

Proceedings between Leinster and Edinburgh began with an impeccably observed minutes silence for Ulster’s Nevin Spence who died tragically last weekend.

Amid chants of ‘stand up for the Ulstermen’, Ireland No.10 Jonathan Sexton took control of the game and converted his own try early on.

Greig Laidlaw kept Edinburgh in the game with three penalties and a conversion from Willem Nel’s score but two second-half tries from Brendan Macken secured a hard earned 22-16 victory for Leinster.

And Munster moved up to second with a runaway 33-13 victory over Newport Gwent Dragons at Thomond Park.

Ireland full-back Ian Keatley and Niall Ronan both scored converted tries within the opening 13 minutes to send their side off to a superb start.

And second-half efforts by scrum-half Conor Murray and Simon Zebo pushed the home side further ahead although Dragons struck back through Dan Evans.

But Tommy O’Donnell rounded things off with eight minutes left when he went over to cap a quality display from Munster.

Irish legend Ronan O’Gara was as capable as ever with the boot and converted four of the five tries in a fantastic evening for Rob Penney’s men.
