Hamilton ready to fight for place

Scotland lock Jim Hamilton expects a battle for places in Edinburgh's second row over the course of the upcoming season.
Hamilton joined Andy Robinson's side at the start of the summer from Leicester having struggled to force his way into the Tigers' line-up on a regular basis last term.

He hopes his move north of the border will enhance his Scotland claims - after a disappointing RBS 6 Nations - but is aware of the quality lock forwards already in Edinburgh's squad.

He said: "I have seen Ben Gissing and Matt Mustchin play in the second row and have been really impressed. Their commitment is outstanding from what I have seen so I know I've got to compete for a place.

"I like to pride myself on my line-outs, scrummaging, tackling and mauling. I hope to bring all that to the team and a bit of aggression."

Hamilton is looking forward to the start of the European Cup pool stage, where he will come face to face with a selection of international locks.

He added: “If you look throughout the teams, they have all got strong second rows. Simon Shaw at Wasps has been in the England team for years while Leinster have got Malcolm O’Kelly and Leo Cullen who are at the top of their game.

“There will be battles all over the field, but from a personal point of view it will be challenging in the second row."
