Clifford warns against English Under-20s complacency

England Under-20s captain Jack Clifford has warned against complacency as the reigning RBS 6 Nations champions take on Ireland at Dubarry Park on Friday.
England got off to a winning start against Scotland, a 15-6 victory in Plymouth putting them in a familiar position at the summit of the table.

The Red Rose have won three of the five Under-20 championships and face an Ireland side who lost their opening game against Wales 17-15.

But having fallen to the Irish at last year’s Junior World Championships in South Africa, Clifford is well-aware of the threat posed by Mike Ruddock’s team.

“We’re a new group and learnt a lot from the game against Scotland,” said Clifford.

“Focus is now on Ireland and we know that they’ll be up for it, but we’ll just focus on our processes and if we play to our potential then we know that we’re a good side.”

The side named by head coach Rob Hunter is altered slightly from the opening weekend – Mark Jennings, Henry Purdy, Danny Hobbs-Awoyemi and Scott Wilson all coming in.

There are also two positional changes with Ben Howard switching from wing to full-back and Luke Cowan-Dickie moving from loosehead prop to hooker, and Hunter said: “Ireland are always a tough side, particularly at home, we've had a good week and we’re just looking forward to getting out there now.”
