Bassett, the top try-scorer in the Championship this year, was denied his debut two weekends ago when England’s clash with Italy was postponed due to the bad weather.

But his debut was certainly worth the wait when it did eventually come.

“That game went so quickly and I don’t remember too much,” Bassett told the Bedfordshire on Sunday.

“To make my debut on home soil with over 3,000 people, my friends and family watching it – I don’t think you can get much better than that.

“I think it’s a credit to, not only the Academy at Blues and first team coaching staff, but also to the Championship.

“But it was great to be on the winning side and hopefully we can keep building.

“Wales fought hard but we dug it out. We’ve got Ireland, France and Italy left, they’re all great teams and we’ve got to go away to Italy again which is going to be a very hard place to play.”
