Ireland Under-20s have learnt from mistakes - Clarke

Irish Under-20 head coach Allen Clarke believes the heartache his side suffered in their defeat to France can spur them on in their clash with England.
Ireland had led France 12-8 at half-time but squandered their lead and ended up on the wrong side of a 20-15 scoreline.

And Clarke reckons his team will come out fighting at Gloucester as they bid to put the disappointment of a fortnight ago behind them.

Clarke said: “We put in a solid performance against Italy and we played a lot of good rugby against France but we made too many errors and we got punished for these errors.

“The lads were frustrated after the game because it was a great opportunity to get a win in France and the lads are disappointed they couldn’t make the most of it.

“But there is a great resolve in the squad and everyone wants to move on and learn from our mistakes.”

England in contrast have won two from two, and Clarke, a member of Ulster’s 1999 Heineken Cup winning squad, is in no doubts about the difficult task facing them.

He added: “Obviously it is going to be a huge challenge. England at any level is always a good challenge and there is always a great rivalry between us.

“They are leading the pack at the moment with two wins out of two so the pressure is on us but we have trained well and the boys are prepared for the challenge.”
