May demands complete performance against Ireland

Winger Johnny May admits England must step up a gear when they continue their Grand Slam pursuit against Ireland in the RBS 6 Nations on Friday following an error-strewn victory over Italy.
The 19-year-old, who has recently moved to the wing from his preferred outside centre position, supplied one of the tries as the Red Rose brigade ran out 16-10 winners in Venice.

But with Ireland hammering Italy 39-0 in the opening round, the Gloucester man has called on his side to deliver a complete performance at Kingsholm.

He said: “It has been good up to a point but we still feel we need to put things right following the Italy game.

“I think there were a few areas where we were weak, our decision making at times let us down and there were too many times when we made the wrong choice or wasted possession.

“I also felt when we had the ball we sometimes didn’t execute moves as well as we know we can.

“We expect a high standard of ourselves and we know we are good enough to get it right.

“It is always nice to be in a team that is winning and, of course, I am happy to have scored a couple of tries but I am just loving the opportunity to play for my country at the moment.”
