Scotland and Ireland both made changes as they bid to prove a point in the RBS 6 Nations clash at Croke Park.
The visitors have made five changes to their starting line-up after two convincing defeats against France and Wales.
Ireland are looking to improve on an unconvincing 16-11 victory against Italy in Dublin, which followed their poor World Cup, although they regained some pride with a narrow defeat in France.
Scotland have a new captain in scrum-half Mike Blair after Jason White was ruled out with concussion, but the main tactical switch sees Chris Paterson employed at stand-off.
Paterson, who was left out against France, replaces Dan Parks at number 10 in a move that signals Scotland are intent on improving their possession play.
Scott MacLeod, Alasdair Strokosch are introduced to the pack and backs Rory Lamont and Simon Webster return from injury.
Allister Hogg will also start after John Barclay cut his hand on a broken glass at a dinner party, while Ross Rennie is expected to earn his first cap from the bench.
Scotland head coach Frank Hadden said: “We are determined to give our supporters something to smile about this weekend.”
Meanwhile, Ireland have recalled Ulster winger Tommy Bowe for his first international since August’s World Cup warm-up match against the Scots.
