Maxime Medard last appeared for France in last year's RBS 6 Nations against Scotland, scoring a try in a victory for Les Bleus

Medard and Vahaamahina added to France squad

France head coach Philippe Saint-Andre has added Maxime Medard and Sebastien Vahaamahina to his RBS 6 Nations squad ahead of his side's clash with Ireland on March 9.

Saint-Andre made eight changes in Les Bleus’ 23-13 defeat to England at Twickenham but has opted for just two as they go in search of their first victory in this year’s competition.

Toulouse back Medard comes in for Benjamin Fall while Vahaamahina replaces Jocelina Suta and both could now feature at the Aviva Stadium.

While Medard has RBS 6 Nations experience under his belt with his last appearance for France coming in last year’s victory against Scotland, where he scored a try, Vahaamahina could make his competition debut as he has just one cap to his name against Australia.

And after putting in a much improved showing against England last time out, Saint-Andre is hopeful his latest recruits will help France end their RBS 6 Nations campaign on a high.

"We have made these two changes in order to prepare our final two matches on the basis of our (much improved) match against the English," said Saint-Andre.

"Collectively, we functioned better at Twickenham and we have to capitalise on that."
