And despite getting off to a losing start against England in their opener, Johnson and Scotland turned things around against Italy as they ran in four tries in a 34-10 victory.
It was 89 years previously that Scotland last scored four tries in a championship match and fly-half Jackson – who Johnson handed a first start to against the Auld Enemy since the 2011 World Cup – is adamant the Kiwi’s fresh approach is behind their free-flowing performances.
“Everyone knows Scott is very jovial, and some of the stuff he comes out with seems strange at times,” the 25-year-old said.
“But there is always a method to his madness, whereas Robbo [Andy Robinson] maybe seemed a lot more serious all the time.
“Every coach is different and it is about getting that balance right. Johnno has come in with a good, fresh approach, and is trying to get some enjoyment back in the camp and getting us to relax, because pressure does mount up on you when you are losing games.”
