Hall, who has 39 caps for Scotland but has started only 12 games over a ten-year career, admitted he was delighted with the opportunity to showcase his talent to the new management team.
“I’m delighted first and foremost, I think it’s great but then you move on quickly to ‘we’ve got a job to do’ and it will only really be good if we win this weekend,” said Hall, whose last start came against Ireland in the 2007 Six Nations.
“I’ve been happy with the way I’ve been playing this year - I’m happy with the way I play most years – but obviously this year there’s been opportunities and that’s great, and rugby is about opportunities and taking them."
With Ford still recovering from nerve damage to his shoulder, a good showing against the Auld Enemy could see Hall nail down a place for the entire RBS 6 Nations campaign – one he thinks he is more than capable of after shining for Glasgow this season.
“I think I’ve definitely changed. Front row is one of those positions that really benefits from experience and having been around for a while and while I’m maybe not as sprightly as I was I’m maybe more canny,” he revealed.
“I think that helps, that’s your bread and butter, that’s what you’re trying to do week-in, week-out for your clubmates and your fans is play well for Glasgow, and you hope that if you do that then you get the chance to have a go in an international and that’s what has happened to me.”
