Denton burst onto the international scene when he made his full debut in the 2012 RBS 6 Nations against England and it might not be long before he is joined in Scottish colours by clubmates Stuart McInally and Roddy Grant after the trio’s impressive collective display in the 21-19 defeat of the Cardiff Blues.
Symbolic of Edinburgh’s ascendancy against a pack featuring the likes of Sam Warburton and Bradley Davies was the awarding of a penalty try – a rare feat for Michael Bradley’s men in recent years.
And after their stirring success in the Heineken Cup last season, Denton wants to see the club’s pack delivering week in, week out.
“For us to get a penalty try from a scrum is massive, it shows where we are going as a club,” he told the Scotsman.
“If we can get the right balance between our backs and our forwards, then we are going to be unstoppable.
“The mood in the dressing room before this game was very similar to that before the Heineken Cup semi-final last season; that was how important it was for the boys to get that win.
“There is a real emphasis that that game was where the season starts.
“We wanted to build momentum, to be a winning team. We know what it feels like to have that confidence.
“We are playing very good rugby, we just need to make sure we convert that into wins every time.”
