Former All Black centre Daryl Gibson is set to leave Glasgow in order to return to New Zealand after being appointed assistant coach of former club Canterbury Crusaders.
Gibson will work alongside former New Zealand and Edinburgh forward Todd Blackadder, who has been named head coach of the Super 14 champions in succession to new Australia supremo Robbie Deans.

Former Leicester man Gibson played 78 games for the Crusaders from 1996 to 2002 and will turn out for the Warriors until he takes up his role with the Crusaders.

He told Glasgow's website: “I’m very grateful for the experience I’ve gained at Glasgow. I’ve learnt a lot in my year here.

“I’ve been made to feel very welcome by all the players, staff and supporters and I’d like to say a special thank you to those who have helped my family with the arrival of our triplets.

“Pre-season preparations have been going well and I believe Glasgow have very good prospects for next season.

“This job hasn’t come up in the last 10 years so it is a huge opportunity for me to coach my first professional club. Also, the desire to return home to New Zealand with my young family was a major pull.”
