Ben Meyer admits Edinburgh's players have been boosted in their pre-season training by the increasing support for the team.
More season tickets have been sold for the forthcoming campaign than ever before as a result of the interest sparked by Edinburgh's fine Celtic League efforts last season.

The arrivals of Scotland men Chris Paterson and Jim Hamilton has further lifted spirits among Edinburgh's growing fan base.

Scrum-half Meyer said: "Everyone is really excited about the big kick-off in September and also the pre-season friendly against Wasps on August 23.

"The fact we have sold so many season tickets compared to this time last year is also really encouraging for the players to see.

"It seems that all the hard work that has been put in, both on and off the pitch, is starting to translate into a positive response from the rugby public in Edinburgh which is a great sign."

The New Zealander also believes Andy Robinson's side will be in terrific condition when the season gets underway as a result of their intense summer training.

Meyer has been impressed with the weights and anaerobic sessions devised by David Hughes, Andy Boyd and Gary Dempsey – with heart-rate monitoring a new way to ensure everyone is putting the effort in.

He said: "I believe these sessions have been great and with the introduction of heart-rate monitoring, those who have the tendency to 'hide' at times, are getting found out.

"And with the results of each session getting posted on the wall, we all get to see who is actually doing the work; there is nothing like a bit of peer pressure to get your personal standards up to scratch!"
