Italy prop Andrea Lo Cicero has had successful surgery on his injured thumb.
The Sicilian-born forward, who plays his club rugby for L'Aquila, had surgery on the injury which was conducted by surgeon Stefano Flamini and his team at L'Aquila's San Salvatore hospital.
The player will have to wear a dressing on the injury for a month but will then be able to undertake rehabilitation work.
Doctors had already instructed the player not to play again this season following the injury which was sustained in Italy's 56-13 defeat at the hands of France in the Stadio Flaminio in Rome last weekend.
