The 25-year-old is still working his way back to standard of fitness required by international rugby but even at less than 100per cent Beattie is hellbent on facing Ireland this weekend.
"I set myself the target of playing some part in this Six Nations tournament," Beattie told the Scotsman.
"So if I'm not picked for the Ireland match I will feel as if I have failed."
"I've said, 'don't feel afraid to pick me'. He was worried about my shoulder and I've explained things are fine and that if he wants to pick me I'm there and he can rely on me.
"In many respects for me I think with a pick-up in adrenaline, to go and play at Murrayfield in the Six Nations game, the sense of occasion and the feeling of being back at that level would lift me and I think I'd be comfortable. But that's not my decision to make."
