Jones was forced to watch from the bench as Hook delivered an assured display in the 24-6 victory at Murrayfield including an assist for Shane Williams' opening try.
But Davies is certain Jones will only use his benching as a spur to regain the Wales No.10 shirt.
"Stephen will react well to this," he said. "He has been used to this over the years.
"One of Stephen's real strengths is his mental strength.
"He also has a great ability to deal and manage with things that go on and drive himself forward.
"In one regard it's not a bad thing that he knows there is competition there now, because it will spur him on.
"You can't have anyone in any position feeling comfortable and not under any pressure because you don't get the best out of them.
"There is great competition for Wales at 10 right now."
