Roddy Grant hopes to use his 7s disappointment to force his way into Vern Cotter's plans
Scotland hopeful Roddy Grant has vowed to use his 7s disappointment at the Commonwealth Games to spur him on to an elusive first cap in the 15-a-side format.
The 27-year-old was part of the Scotland 7s side who were roared on by a home side at Glasgow, going out of the Commonwealths at the quarter-final stage with a 35-12 defeat to eventual winners South Africa.
Scotland finished fifth in this year's RBS 6 Nations and new head coach Vern Cotter has run the rule over his players this summer, travelling to North America, Argentina and South Africa with two separate squads.
And Edinburgh flanker Grant insists his experience at the Commonwealths could prove a springboard for further international recognition.
"This is going to make me a better player," Grant told Edinburgh Evening News.
"I've not played for Scotland and while I have played 7s in Hong Kong it has been rarely in front of so many people as we've had at Ibrox and certainly not with nearly them all behind our team and so loud as well. For sure this will spur me on."
