Ireland have appointed former All Black Greg Feek as scrum coach for the next two years, starting from next season.
Feek, who won ten caps for the Kiwis, was employed as a consultant by Ireland during their successful 2014 RBS 6 Nations campaign.
A former Crusader who worked as forwards coach for the Hurricanes in Super Rugby, Feek worked under Schmidt during his fellow Kiwi's tenure at Leinster.
And the Ireland head coach is delighted to have the former prop join his coaching staff on a full-time basis.
"Greg played an important role during the Six Nations and the national coaching team are delighted that he will be joining us on a full-time basis," said Schmidt.
Feek added: "I am excited to be taking on this new role. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time working with Leinster and have grown as a coach at the province.
"There is some good scrum talent across all four provinces but there is always plenty to work on as we attempt to maximize the growth and development of the emerging talent while also staying as competitive as possible at the top level."
England Under-18 head coach John Fletcher insists his young side will be better for the experience after beating Italy in the bronze final to round out their 2015 Rugby Europe U18 Championship campaign in style.
