And after losing to England in their last outing, Gatland was pleased with the display as Wales ran in seven tries, with George North and Jamie Roberts both grabbing doubles and further scores for Liam Williams, Taulupe Faletau and Rhodri Williams.
"It was a good display out there," said Gatland."You have to be ruthless [against 14 men] and I think we were from that point on.
"When we kept the ball for long phases I didn't think Scotland could handle our physicality, whether it was in defence or attack.
"That was the mindset and the guys did really well. We spoke all week about earning the right to go wide and play and the forwards delivered on that front.
"You have to feel sorry for Stuart because he is not that sort of player at all. He's had a rush of blood and made a mistake. We won't be dwelling on that and I don't think you will see that from him again.
"He's made a mistake. It is a collision sport and there are no hard feelings. We move on from that."
