Despite their best efforts England could only emerge from the Stadio Olimpico with a 52-11 victory, before Ireland wrapped up the Championship with victory over France hours later.
Leonardo Sarto's intercept try for Italy late in the second half put paid to England's points aim but Robshaw refused to criticise his team's near miss.
"I'm really proud of the boys and the way they've played all tournament," he said. "Plus 50 points is what we wanted to do, it's just a shame we conceded that try.
"We always knew it would be tough. We were focused, ready and came here with the objective of getting 50.
"We left a few opportunities out there but that's one for another day. Unfortunately we conceded. If we hadn't we'd have been in a good position."
