The Perpignan hooker has won 18 caps - all but one of those coming from the replacements bench - but has not figured for Les Bleus since last summer's tour to New Zealand.
With injuries to both Benjamin Kayser and Dimitri Szarzewski, Philippe Saint-Andre found himself with just one fit hooker - Brice Mach - at his disposal.
As a result he has called upon the services of Guirado ahead of Saturday's RBS 6 Nations clash with Scotland at Murrayfield.
And Guirado acknowledged that he is benefiting from the misfortune of others.
"My performances with my club have been average. I respect the choice of the coaches to have not called me up since June," he said.
"It gave me the chance to work hard, physically speaking.
"I am happy to be here, even if it is only because someone else has been injured.
"I am working on my lineout call, I have rediscovered my combinations books and I am spending time memorising it again."
