Wales centre Sonny Parker will be out for at least six weeks after surgery to correct a groin problem and is likely to miss most of the RBS 6 Nations.
Parker strained knee ligaments on Boxing Day playing for the Ospreys and has now opted to have a long-standing groin problem corrected.
Wales have already lost Ian Evans for the RBS 6 Nations campaign while fellow lock Robert Sidoli is unlikely to be fit for the opener against Ireland on 4 February and flanker Jonathon Thomas is also struggling with a shoulder injury.
