Lyon were relegated to the Pro D2 last season and Bennett, who was the started Wales' RBS 6 Nations Grand Slam winning campaign, insists they can get promoted back to the Top 14.
Bennett also started during Wales' run to the 2011 World Cup semi-finals but missed the summer tour of Australia, a 3-0 whitewash, with an Achilles tendon injury.
The 29-year-old had been one of the Ospreys' longest serving players having appeared in their inaugural season in 2003 but insists he has no regrets over the move to France.
"It's a new experience for me, the first time I have changed club," he told Walesonline.
"But all is well since I arrived in Lyon. My team-mates have been very welcoming and helpful to me. In addition, it is nice here.
"It's a new adventure for me and the goal is to go straight back up.
"The club has ambition, evidenced by the fact that few players left in the off season.
"I cannot wait to start the season. I should be ready for it.
"I am very pleased and excited to be here."
