But he limped off on crutches during Northampton's Premiership victory over Bath on Friday, and Saints have announced that while the full extent of the injury is still not known, Foden faces a spell on the sidelines.
"Ben Foden sustained significant damage to his ankle ligaments during last Friday's Aviva Premiership Rugby game against Bath and is going to see a specialist tomorrow (Wednesday)," read a club statement.
"The club will have more information after that, but Ben is expected to be out of action for a number of weeks."
The news comes as a blow to Stuart Lancaster, who will be keeping a close eye on Foden's situation ahead of this year's Autumn Internationals which get under way against Fiji on November 10 before matches with Australia, the Springboks and New Zealand in the subsequent weeks.
After Friday's match, Northampton director of rugby Jim Mallinder had expressed his optimism that Foden would not be spending a lengthy spell on the sidelines.
After the game, he said: "I think it's just a bit of ligament damage, we don't think anything is broken so hopefully he won't be out for too long."
