Ulster host Aironi this weekend before clashes with Biarritz and Bath and after an unbeaten start to the Magners League season, Best wants to right the wrongs of a year ago.
"We've got to find third or fourth gear this year but the big thing for us this year has been the tight games," said Best.
"We've closed out tight games when we wouldn't have done in the past couple of years - we would have lost them.
"We know this year that that we've got to get something from every single game - preferably a win and if not, at least a point.
"That is especially the case in the Heineken Cup. It's such an intense competition. Something that we found last season is that one point can make such a huge difference."
