That looks set to change in the coming weeks after Jackson was named as one of four uncapped players in Andy Robinson's 34-strong squad for the Tests against the All Blacks, South Africa and Samoa.
Scotland kick-start their autumn campaign against New Zealand on November 13 and Jackson revealed a chance to play, even off the bench, would be a dream come true.
"I feel part of the squad having been involved with them on a few occasions over the last few years but I am desperate to get involved in the Test squad at some point," said Jackson.
"If I were to come on against New Zealand that would be a good one to start your international career off with - I don't think you are going to top that.
"And if Dan Carter was playing it would be incredible but saying that there is still a lot of time before the camp so I am trying not to look at it just yet."
