The Scots have lost all but one of their 11 opening fixtures in the Six Nations, with their lone victory coming in 2006 against Saturday's opponents France at Murrayfield.

And with just two wins in the last 42 years in Paris, the challenge of Les Bleus represents a big test for the team who followed up a series win in Argentina with a hard-fought victory over South Africa in November.

Without the services of Johnnie Beattie, Robinson has opted to switch Nathan Hines to the back row alongside John Barclay who insists Scotland can continue a run of five wins in their last six games.

"We're confident in what we're doing. There's a very good feeling in the squad and we fully believe in ourselves," said the Glasgow flanker, who received rave reviews for his performances in the autumn.

"It's going to be hugely physical and something the Scottish guys are relishing.

"But we also know that if we don't play to our potential, things like the result against New Zealand will happen. I wouldn't look too far beyond the first game, but we're certainly confident."

Reigning Grand Slam champions France, on the other hand, come into the game with coach Marc Lièvremont under considerable pressure.

Since a 59-16 hammering at home to Australia in November, Lièvremont has taken greater control of the team, making some bold calls in the back line which lines up on Saturday.

Damien Traille moves to full back after an unsuccessful stint at fly half, while in-form centre Maxime Mermoz replaces Yannick Jauzion.

Mermoz lines up with Aurélien Rougerie, his sixth centre partner in as many matches, and is confident they will pose Scotland a serious threat.

"Aurélien anticipates a lot during the game. I know if I make a break he'll be there on my shoulder," said the Perpignan youngster.

"The hardest thing will be in defence. We have to make sure we work together, be that in a drift or a rush defence."
