Cowan-Dickie wants to give Hunter memorable send-off

Hooker Luke Cowan-Dickie is determined to give coach Rob Hunter the perfect going away present as England Under-20s prepare for a winner takes all RBS 6 Nations clash with Wales next week.
Cowan-Dickie produced a fine performance to help England to a 52-7 victory over Italy on Friday – powering his side to two penalty tries while Exeter teammates Sam Hill and Jack Nowell, twice, also crossed the whitewash, as did centre Tom Stephenson.

Despite England’s narrow defeat and Wales’ 100 per cent record, Cowan-Dickie and co have a superior points difference meaning whoever prevails in Colwyn Bay next Friday will lift the trophy.

Regardless, it will be Hunter’s last match in charge before he heads to Exeter to take up the role as forwards coach.

And while that means Cowan-Dickie will remain in close contact with Hunter, he’s determined to give him a send-off to remember on the international stage.

“We started to finish a few tries after the break which was pleasing,” said Cowan-Dickie. “[Rob] told us to cut out the errors and be a bit more clinical and stop the silly penalties which allowed us to score tries.

“Winning one penalty try is always good but getting two was awesome.

“I made the move to hooker this season, the first game I played there against Ireland and I didn’t think I had done so well but I think things got better in this game.

“We started playing better against France and we put in another good performance here and hopefully we can produce another good performance against Wales, and hopefully become champions.

“We always want to win a game with Rob Hunter just about to win we definitely want give him a win before he goes.”
