Tom Wood takes on scrum-half Conor Murray in England's victory over Ireland

Wood sees no limits to England's progress

Back row Tom Wood believes the sky's the limit after England kept their RBS 6 Nations Grand Slam hopes alive with victory over Ireland in Dublin on Sunday.
Wood was switched to No.8 in the absence of Ben Morgan but he still played a key role in England’s first RBS 6 Nations victory in Ireland for a decade.

That was also the last time England completed the Grand Slam before going on the lift the World Cup later that year in Australia under Sir Clive Woodward’s stewardship.

After a rest week, France are due at Twickenham before England host Italy and then travel to the Millennium Stadium to face Wales.

And Wood is convinced England have what it takes to arrive in Cardiff on the back of four wins – provided they don’t let their recent success go to their heads.

He said: “Can we win the Grand Slam? I would like to think so. I don’t think there’s any limits to what we can achieve.

“We have to keep focusing on the next job and stay very grounded. All our victories so far have been built on our intensity and hard work.

“They are not built on individual flair or individual talent, they are built on togetherness and the culture that underpins that. The moment we forget that and get ahead of ourselves we are in trouble.”
