Roberts admits criticism of Wales was justified

Jamie Roberts admits the criticism Wales received prior to their gutsy RBS 6 Nations victory over France was fully justified - but he now believes pride in the red jersey has been restored.
Wales arrived in Paris on a run of eight straight defeats and hadn’t tasted victory since completing the Grand Slam against France in Cardiff last March.

A cagey encounter saw Leigh Halfpenny and Frederic Michalak trade two penalties apiece before George North’s late try sealed Wales’ first win in France since their 2005 Grand Slam.

And Roberts, who won his 50th cap in the Stade de France, was quick to praise the character of his side as they got the defence of the RBS 6 Nations crown back on track.

“Too right we came in for a lot of stick last week, because it wasn't good enough,” said Roberts.

“We had to put that right and we showed that from the off against France. We showed that heart and effort to get off our line and defend and cut them off.

“All of that was hugely important and our class showed in attack then.

“We have come in for a lot of stick over the last year.

“A lot of it is warranted and we haven't won a game in like eight games, so to come out here and win against a good French team and have that passion for the shirt was fantastic.”
