Wales arrived in Paris on the back of eight straight defeats, following last weekend’s loss to Ireland, and without a win in this year’s RBS 6 Nations.

But having secured a first victory under interim head coach Rob Howley – however scrappy it was at times – Jones is convinced Wales can rekindle the form that saw them scoop last year’s Grand Slam.

“This is special, especially on the back of the last few months. We fronted up and worked incredibly hard,” said Jones, leading Wales in the absence of flanker Sam Warburton.

“This was by no means a faultless display – there were a lot of errors in there. But the diehard spirit in this team is something special.

“It’s been tough this last week. There is not a lot you can put right in that space of time. We knew a lot of the errors last week against Ireland were of our own making.

“We fronted up, didn’t shy away, had a good go and we’ve taken the spoils away.

“We said before the game we have players who have been here before and know what it takes to win on the big occasion.

“Leigh Halfpenny and Mike Phillips have really stood up and been counted. That’s what it takes. Hopefully we can kick on from here. Winning is a habit and we’ve now got that monkey off our back and hopefully we can kick on.”
