Tom Wood is expected to get the nod after Tom Johnson was released by England
Lancaster drops Waldrom, Johnson and Sharples for South Africa clash

England have dropped Thomas Waldrom, Charlie Sharples and Tom Johnson as Stuart Lancaster makes a number of changes to his squad for Saturday's clash with South Africa.
After trimming his squad to 24, Jonathan Joseph, James Haskell and Ben Morgan have remained while Alex Corbisiero is also still in the camp with Joe Marler out through injury.

Haskell and Morgan will now compete for the No.8 jersey in Waldrom’s absence while Tom Wood is the favourite to start at blindside flanker and Joseph could replace Sharples.

Corbisiero, who impressed in England’s front row during the this year’s RBS 6 Nations, and Maku Vunipola are in contention to come in for Marler while Mouritz Botha is in the 24 – one of four locks along with Joe Launchbury, Tom Palmer and Geoff Parling.

Lancaster said: “We have made some changes this week to freshen up the squad before the challenge of South Africa.

“Unfortunately that means one or two players miss out who were in the match day squad against Australia.

“But they have all added value with their contributions in training and the games and I am sure they will be looking to play well for their clubs and force their way back in.

“The changes however give opportunities to those who have been pushing hard and we feel will add energy and balance to the team ahead of the significant South African challenge.”
