Blair eyes Scotland starting berth against New Zealand

Scrum-half Mike Blair has targeted a return to the Scotland starting XV for the autumn internationals, having recovered from a shoulder injury to make his mark with new club Brive.
Blair, Scotland’s most capped scrum-half including 39 RBS 6 Nations appearances, came off the bench for his new side after 50 minutes in the weekend win over Auch to make his home debut, following his summer move across the Channel.

It was only Blair’s third appearance for the club, having seen his start to life in Brive set back by injury, but with Chris

Cusiter out of action until after the imminent visits of New Zealand, South Africa and Tonga, the 31-year-old is eyeing the chance to add to his 83 caps.

“I have been in touch with Andy Robinson. He has been supportive and I hope to play in the November Tests,” Blair told the Scotsman.

“Coming to a new club I was obviously disappointed that I couldn’t play because it is easier to gain the respect of team mates by proving yourself on the pitch.

“I feel that I have integrated but won’t feel that I have managed it completely until I have played a few matches.

“Everyone at the club has been fantastic but I have to gain respect on the pitch.”

Blair started the first two matches of Scotland’s all-conquering summer tour against Australia and Fiji before he made way for Cusiter in the third against Samoa.
