Borthwick was angered by what he perceived to be a gloating Scotland reaction to their 15-9 victory at Murrayfield in last year's championship.

"There are certain things I will not forget after that game," he said. "They made no disguise in rubbing in the fact they had beaten England.

"After Sunday's game against France, we won and we were pleased with our game but I would like to think we handled that win in a gracious manner."

England manager Martin Johnson also stirred things up by declaring he had no sympathy for an under pressure Scotland side who would arrive at Twickenham for the Calcutta Cup showdown with a "chip on their shoulder".

England's comments ensured that even if the RBS 6 Nations title was being decided elsewhere, there would be no shortage of fireworks at Twickenham.

Scotland are chasing a second win of the championship, and captain Mike Blair the team had not performed to the standards expected.

He said: "We've let the management team down and they can't go on the pitch and sort out the problems; we need to put in an 80-minute performance."

Hadden made one change to the side that lost to Ireland, with Scott Gray starting in place of John Barclay at openside flanker.

England remained unchanged from their 34-10 victory over France - the first time that has happened since the World Cup semi-final in 2007.
