But his injury curse struck again with the Lions as he broke a bone in his wrist in the 22-12 victory over Queensland Reds.
Bowe did come back to play in the second and third Lions Tests however and was expected to be fit for Ulster’s Pro12 clash with former club Ospreys on October 4.
However Ulster revealed that Bowe underwent minor surgery on Wednesday and will return in four to six weeks time.
A club statement read: "Ulster winger, Tommy Bowe, had minor surgery on his wrist this afternoon (Wednesday 14th August) to treat an injury he sustained playing for the British and Irish Lions in Australia during the summer.
"The surgery went well and it is expected that Tommy will return to play in four to six weeks time."
