Ellis Jenkins
Jenkins looking to gain momentum from the RBS 6 Nations through to the World Cup

Jenkins encouraged by Wales Under-20's front five dominance

Wales Under-20s captain Ellis Jenkins insists the continued dominance of his side's front five could prove to be an RBS 6 Nations-winning asset following a third straight victory in Italy.

The rain-sodden conditions put a dent in Wales’ hopes of playing an attractive brand of rugby but Jenkins was delighted with his side’s ability to adapt in the 25-10 win.

And having seen a dominant scrum pave the way for the back row and out-half partnership of Rhodri Williams and Sam Davies to dictate play, Jenkins believes the squad takes a lot of confidence with them into their next fixture away to Scotland.

“It was so tough. It got more and more slippery as the game went on and the ball was flying round and it was a guessing game sometimes where it would end up when it was in the air but we played the conditions and the territory well,” said Jenkins.

“We dominated the scrum which is always a positive for us and we got a penalty try which is really pleasing. We do a lot of work on it and the front row and second row are giving us a platform and putting teams under pressure which is good for controlling the game.

“We thought we could play a bit of rugby coming over here but when the conditions changed we are pleased with how we adapted and it is pleasing to come here and play so well.

“It is always the same with the Italians. They fly into everything, play for their country and gave us a good game and kept fighting to the end. It is just another game along the way and we have a very big game and another test against Scotland in Inverness.

“We are going for the World Cup and we want to win every game so we have some momentum so every win is a bonus and we are putting in some team good performances.”
