Wales have lost their last 14 matches New Zealand, Australia and South Africa but they came agonisingly close to ending that record with three narrow defeats against the Wallabies this summer.

Warburton and co kick things off against Argentina on Saturday and while that takes priority, the 24-year-old skipper is desperate to scalp one of the world’s big three this autumn.

"The squad is in a place now where we are full of confidence and belief,” said Warburton, who will win his 31st Wales cap on Saturday.

"There is an inner confidence in the squad and the players are as fed up as I am sure the public and media are, waiting for this scalp. Hopefully we can get that win sooner rather than later.

"We don't want any of those doubts creeping in the longer it takes, but I don't think they will.

"We are an ambitious group of boys and the coaches are great at motivating us.”

The Wales side has notable enforced absentees, with Adam Jones, Dan Lydiate and Ryan Jones out through injury.

And Warburton is well aware of the level of performance required to overturn the three year wait for a win over one of the old Tri-Nations sides.

But the captain is setting his sights on a 100 per cent record against the world’s best to put Wales in a competitive position for the 2015 World Cup.

"Four games on the bounce against quality opposition is going to be tough, but we are really looking forward to it and we have to go for four scalps really” he said.

“These games will be vital for [World Cup] seedings and confidence as well.

"If you look at the great northern hemisphere sides like England in 2003, they beat the big three [New Zealand, Australia, South Africa] on the bounce.

"That is the standard, really, if we want to be contenders in 2015."
