Palisson has featured for France just once this year – that the RBS 6 Nations clash with Wales back in March – with new head coach Philippe Saint-Andre favouring Julien Malzieu during the tournament.

And the 25-year-old could now miss out on the chance to get back among Saint-Andre’s thoughts after suffering a back injury during Toulon’s clash with Toulouse at the weekend.

Palisson came on as a replacement in the 32-9 Top 14 defeat to the French champions and within a matter of minutes was taken off with the injury.

He is expected to be sidelined for a month with his return therefore coming a matter of days before France’s first autumn fixture against Australia on November 10.

The Toulon wing has 21 caps for Les Bleus and started four games during the World Cup last year, including the 8-7 defeat to New Zealand in the final.
