RBS RugbyForce Ambassador - France

Philippe Saint Andre

 PHilippe Saint Andre

 Philippe Saint Andre

Date of Birth: 19/04/67
Debut: 24/05/90 (vs Romania)
Last Appearance: 22/11/97 (vs South Africa)
Caps: 69
Points: 152
Position: Winger

Philippe was an outstanding winger who played in the same era as David Campese, Jonah Lomu and Rory Underwood - and bears comparison with all of them. He played 69 times for France, 34 times as captain, and in 1994 led the French to two Test wins over the All Blacks, in New Zealand.
He also scored one of the greatest tries in history, against England in the Grand Slam-decider of 1991. In France, it's still referred to as the Try of the Century.
After seven years, Philippe retired from international rugby and turned to coaching, where he has proved just as successful. He had spells with Gloucester and Bourgoin before being appointed Director of Rugby at Sale Sharks in 2003.
