Ahead of the final game of the Championship, Ryan ruled out staying on with Scotland insisting his days as a coach were numbered after promising his young family he would revert to his former life as a Sky Sports pundit at the conclusion of the RBS 6 Nations.
Efforts were made by Johnson and SRU chief executive Mark Dodson to keep Ryan but he stayed true to his word.
However, in a surprise move Ryan was this week unveiled at Worcester and will take the reins next season after being convinced by the club’s owner
“I was always here (with Scotland) only for the Six Nations. I have loved my time here. I’m humbled they have allowed me to come in and prepare them for Test matches. It’s been fantastic,” said Ryan ahead of his final game with Scotland.
